The Suck Less JOB SEARCH BLOG
So, I have been telling people about August, the 2nd hottest job month of the year for executives. I have been stressing not waiting. Instead, I have been telling people to target company pain instead of company job openings.
The key to winning in August: Know their current business mission or mandate.
Here is an example from...today.
I work with a gent that is an executive in EdTech. He wanted to target Microsoft. He wanted to target Amazon. He wanted to target Apple. Why? He thinks they are good companies that can afford him and they all had job openings that aligned with his background.
Did he get a response from any of these three big boys? NOPE.
As a matter of fact, traction has been weak in his search. I want him to target company pain. He didn't get it....until about 3 hours ago.
I read an article about a quiet Google acquisition of an EdTech company called, Socratic. https://socratic.org/ . It's pretty cool.
My client got excited...we scrambled to figure out a play. The pain was baked into the article. Could he help Google get everything out of this acquisition? Could he help scale this tech beyond math? Yes and Yes!
I am feverishly writing this as I am reading a text that he broke through and is having a chat with execs at Google.
Target pain for traction in August. Your job search is worth pulling out the stops.
I am just a guy standing in front of a job seeker asking them to let me help them get hired.
